Huawei officially announced the Ascend P6at a dedicated event in London yesterday. The Ascend P6 is a device that has been the subject of many rumors, and the company itself has not hesitated to post teaser images and confirmed the name on its own Facebook page. Although the event itself was not broadcast live, the firm tweetedlive through its @HuaweiDevice account.
The smartphone is Huawei’s latest attempt to break into the lucrative and highly competitive world of high-end Android smartphones. The Chinese telecommunications giant has published an intriguing Ascend brand in the past, but this is the first time we have seen such an intensive media launch for a smartphone. Described using words such as elegance and beauty , here’s what the Ascend P6 is.
For its moment of glory, the Ascend P6 is the thinnest smartphone in the world , because it measures only 6.18 mm, for a weight of 120 grams. The design looks good as far as I can see on the press images, and is certainly reminiscent of the Apple iPhone, especially on the outline and the top of the device.
Despite the thinness of the chassis, a 2000 mAh battery has been integrated into the smartphone, which has several software improvements that are expected to increase its energy efficiency by 30%. For the rest of the features, the Ascend P6 features a 4.7-inch touch screen that can be used with gloves, and offers a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. A quad-core processorclocked at 1.5 GHz with 2 GB of RAM will beef up the mobile, plus 8 GB of internal storage space, and a micro-SD card slot. It comes with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, which is the most up-to-date version of Google’s mobile OS, and like the competition, features Huawei’s own Emotion UI as an overlay. Unfortunately, there is no support for 4G LTE connectivity.
Huawei has equipped its device with an 8-megapixel camera on the back of the camera, and a 5-megapixel front camera to make video calls. As part of the Emotion user interface, the ImageSmart Camera App offers enhancements on contrast and color refinement, automatic recognition of the scene to be photographed and “beauty” settings for faces, enabling instant beautification of these.
The phone will be available in black, white and pink and sold with a case of the same color, is expected to be launched in China in June and Europe in July , but the price has not yet been confirmed. According to the press release, Vodafone, O2, Carphone Warehouse, Orange, and several other vendors like Amazon, and MediaMarkt have all agreed to sell the Ascend P6.
